WELLOW MANOR, ROMSEY
Wellow Manor is a Grade II Listed Georgian Manor House in the hamlet of East Wellow in Hampshire. Originating in the 17th Century, the house was originally listed as Manor Farmhouse and is set in three acres of grounds. The house is situated on the edge the New Forest, equidistant from the pretty market town of Romsey and Salisbury city centre and in an area of extensively arable fields and woodland.
Until 1920 Wellow Manor formed part of The Embley Park Estate with reputed visits from Florence Nightingale, who is buried in the village nearby at the 15th Century parish church.
The Manor is privately owned and while the current owner had made extensive improvements to the interior (including the installation of a gym and swimming pool), the external brickwork and pointing, particularly in outlying buildings and the surrounding wall were in need of repair. Previous owners had blocked up certain walkways and windows and with little regard for the building’s original character and these were in need of restorative care.
